I’ll be at the Shemer Art Center tomorrow, March 15th, for the Garden Art Show 9 am to 4 pm.  Stop by if you get a chance.  There will be 20 artists of all kinds and a MicroDwell Exhibit in the Shemer orchard area.

5005 East Camelback Rd.

Phoenix, AZ

These are some of the nature journals I’ve been making….

I’m using dried leaves, native and non-native flowers, and some prints on teabags for the covers.  The binding is done with a selection of sticks I’ve been collecting.

I’ll have nature journals, moths, and some of the new gouache paintings on reclaimed doors there.  We are also paired with the MicroDwell event that is ongoing at the Shemer.

Check out some of the artists that will be participating at:

girl lilawhat is it about giant balloon animals in plastic skirts that makes us all want to buy cars?

The weather has been so warm lately.  It’s perfect for working in the back garden. For the class I’m doing end of month at Vision Gallery, we’ll be making nature/garden books.  The kids will learn a basic binding method, create some prints, and go home with a book to fill up with their own works of nature.

Tempe Center for the Arts has a summer exhibit up – all about animals.  They worked in conjunction with the Phoenix Zoo and have artwork by and of the animals….as well as by many artists.

These are a few of my pieces in the exhibit.  Be sure to go and check out the three dimensional animals by Christy Puetz – fantastic forms and beadwork.  She’s using all kinds of natural materials to cover her animal forms and the beads are just growing on them.  Carolyn Lavender’s wall-size piece in gouache and graphite of a forest of trophy animals revealed something new every time I walked over to it.  Christopher Jagmin has animals and words scattered and hidden throughout his pieces – the word play is great.  These are just a few….hope you get a chance to stop by.

Change, aging, body parts not working as they should, have been on my mind much lately.  It’s a huge shift to go from the injuring-healing-injuring-healing cycle for fifty years and then find that the healing part portion of the cycle is no more for some parts.  The realization that, even something minor, will never go back to what it was.  It’s all around me right now –  friends, family and self.  No matter how many people told you this would come about, it is not real till it’s you.  Permanent change, slow acceptance.
